Overview

FoodReady is a food safety and compliance platform helping food businesses maintain safety standards through HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) planning. The platform needed a major overhaul of its HACCP module to address growing usability concerns and technical debt from its Angular-based legacy version.

The redesign aimed to modernize the tech stack by transitioning to React and make the experience more intuitive, efficient, and closer to the real-world HACCP documentation process.

Problem Statement & Objectives

Problem Statement:

The older HACCP module, built on Angular, was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain due to outdated libraries and a rigid structure. Its UI was functional but lacked intuitiveness, consistency, and visual clarity. Additionally, users were often burdened with repetitive manual input tasks that slowed down plan creation.

Objectives:

1. Migrate from Angular to React for improved scalability, support, and maintainability.
2. Redesign the UI to:
   • Better reflect the physical structure of HACCP documentation.
   • Improve user flow and interaction.
   • Simplify navigation and information discovery.
3. Introduce AI assistance to:
   • Help users auto-generate plans.
   • Reduce redundant manual input.
   • Increase overall efficiency and accuracy.

Research & Key Insights

User Feedback & Usability Pain Points:

• Users found the left-aligned form structure disjointed from how HACCP forms are traditionally filled out.
• Lack of visual flow made it difficult for users to track progress through plan sections (e.g., ingredients, process steps, CCP).
• Switching between steps and editing entries required unnecessary clicks and backtracking.
• Manual hazard identification was time-consuming, especially for complex food products.
